GOING GREEN: Sustainable Cabinet Materials for an Eco-Friendly Home

At denca we are committed to using the highest quality materials for the longest lasting impact in your home and kitchen. Our cabinets will withstand the daily rigors of use, including opening and closing, exposure to moisture, and the weight of stored items, without losing their structural integrity. To ensure this is always the case, we need to make we are using the best materials on the market.

RANGER BOARD is one of those materials, and it’s our choice over standard MDF for all our visible cabinet parts, like doors, gables, soffits, and toe-kicks. What’s exciting about this material, is it is not only one of the highest qualities– but an environmentally friendly option as well. As a company who has been around for over 40+ years, we want to make sure we are not only prioritizing quality – but reducing our footprint as well.

So, let’s talk about some key points about why this sustainable cabinet material should make its way into your eco-friendly home:

RANGER BOARD – FOR A HEALTHIER INDOOR ENVIRONMENT

Not only is it important to choose environmentally friendly products to protect our environment, but what about your family as well? RANGER BOARD is a much healthier option to have in your indoor environment over your standard MDF.

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) typically contains formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a common adhesive used in the production of MDF and other composite wood products. It is used to bind the wood fibers together during the manufacturing process.

Alternatively, Ranger board is made to meet or exceed The California Air Resources Board (CARB) standard of no more than 0.13 parts per million which makes it a safer alternative for your home. Creating cleaner air, and a chemical free indoor environment for you and your family.

RANGER BOARD – STRONGER AND DENSER

One of the most important factors when choosing our materials – is strength. We want to choose materials that not only look good but will last the test of time. We understand there will be wear and tear and everything in between. We want to ensure our products are strong, solid and wear well with time.

As far as strength goes, Ranger Board passes the bar over Standard MDF. Ranger board can withstand a lot more pressure – making it able to last over time.

Ranger board is also a lot more dense than standard MDF, which makes it able to withstand a taller height, making it better for ceiling-height cabinets or any project that requires a taller frames, as it will not bow, warp, or bend.   Also when we router profiles into the ranger board, its structural integrity remains.

RANGER BOARD – FOR MOISTURE RESISTANCE

Ranger board also tends to be more resistant to moisture than MDF. It has several moisture wicking factors that help repel water and continue to hold its shape. This makes it a superior choice for areas prone to humidity or occasional exposure to moisture, such as in places like your kitchen, or front door.

MDF, being made of wood fibers and resin, can swell, and deteriorate when exposed to moisture for extended periods.

Overall, Ranger board has many advantages when it comes to your home. It’s lack of formaldehyde, durable nature and moisture wicking properties make it a high-quality option to use in your home, while also providing a more ecofriendly option.
